Tree-Rex by HodariNundu Tree-Rex by HodariNundu

A lone Styracosaurus struggling to walk in the muddy shore of a watering hole, unaware of the fact that a tyrannosaur is observing him, disguised among the dead trees.
I made this quick sketch with a very blunt pencil (I tend to lose my sharpeners XD) and inspired by one of my fave birds, the potoo (Nyctibius) which spends daytime pretending to be a broken tree stump. Imagine if a giant theropod disguised itself as a tree, rock or termite mound to ambush its prey!
My idea is to draw another better version this time with ink and maybe with other dinos :>

This is actually a very accurate/scuentifically possible idea...

Adults probably are Stalkers/Bullies rather than Full-time Hunters chasing prey; they are too much heavy for that (Not Subadults thought)

That's probably the most original depiction of a dinosaur that I've ever seen O.O dino-trees. That would be awesome....and kind of terrifying...

A eso yo si le llamo camuflaje jejeje, solo espero que el tiranosaurido cuente con la paciencia necesaria para atacar desprevenido al Styraco.

T-rex is watching you nude swim at the lake. ;D Lol.

I wouldn't be surprised if any of them did something like this. One may have just been sitting around and when prey wandered close enough it may have decided to take advantage of the moment and strike. After that, it may have tried it again and after awhile of perfecting it, decided to utilize the ability. Other may have learned from watching or stumbling into the trap. Tyrannosaur wasn't a brainless eating machine like it was once believed to be. One can only wonder though.

No predator is a brainless eating machine. That goes against predator protocol.

But of course. That's reserved for Hollywood and highly out of date texts.

But T. rex isn't smarter than any other active predator, more on the same league (and that is still quite intelligent)

Most of its brain was for sensory organs rather than strategic, so compared with most predators its intelligence was on the same level.

Tyrannosaurus itself could've done that if it had the right skin patterns considering it was the most intelligent of the large theropods, so it was able to formulate strategies more capably than Allosaurus or other carnosaurs like it.

very intresting idea, it would work very good when ambushing ceratopsian, what i know of they didnt have that good eyesight so that camo would work fine, like modern day rhino.

In a world that barely had any grass, being a tree is the next best camouflage tactic.
