The Lost Files- Mussaurus by HodariNundu The Lost Files- Mussaurus by HodariNundu
JURASSIC PARK Los Archivos Perdidos
Mussaurus
Epoca: Triasico tardio, hace 215 millones de años
Distribucion: Sudamerica
Longitud: Hasta 20 cms
Peso: 120 gramos
Dieta: Herbivoro

JURASSIC PARK The Lost Files
Mussaurus
Age: Late Triassic, 215 mya
Range: South America
Length: Up to 20 cms
Weight: 120 g
Diet: Herbivore
Mussaurus is a diminutive prosauropod, and one of the last dinosaurs cloned by InGen.
This herbivore feeds on ferns and other low plants; it is easy to know where it has fed, because they usually take small bites of a plant and then go for a new one. They are solitary, but most of its behavior is still a mystery, for their small size makes them extremely difficult to study and follow.
Mussaurus have large dark eyes and excelent eyesight; their senses of smell and hearing are also acute. They can stand on their hindlegs but usually walk and run quickly on all fours, and they are also able to leap and swim. Their coloration helps them to camouflage, and it has been confirmed that they practically do not smell, so they can hide from predators such as compys.
The details of their reproduction are unknown. Perhaps the most baffling thing about Mussaurus is that no adults are known; none of the cloned Mussaurus grew up over 20 cms long, and in the wild, all recorded Mussaurus were equally small. Some Jurassic Park scientists believed that they simply grew up slowly, but the most recent theories suggest that Mussaurus is actually neotenic, which means that they retain juvenile physycal characteristics, even after they reach sexual maturity. It is unknown however if neoteny was a trait in prehistoric Mussaurus, or if it was developed by the Jurassic Park clones and their descendants for some unknown reason.
TRIVIA: Due to its diminutive size, the Jurassic Park managers decided that it wouldn´t be practical to put Mussaurus on a large enclosure like other dinosaurs, and they thought the animal would be popular in a "petting zoo" kind of attraction. Unfortunately, Mussaurus turned out to be extremely ill tempered, and always willing to bite, so this idea had to be abandoned.
CAUTION, WILL BITE IF PROVOKED

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it still uncertain how old the current discovery of this guy is? They aren't sure if it was an adult or infant.

I think it is a baby, there are some remains that could be adult Mussaurs. But I liked the idea of a mouse sized dino, so I kept them neotenic...
