El Avisaurus es un dinosaurio volador que en epocas prehistoricas fue equivalente de las aves de presa. No tiene pico, pero si dientes afilados para desgarrar la carne, y garras semejantes a las de sus parientes los raptores.
Durante la mayor parte del año, los Avisaurus tienen plumas principalmente en las alas y la cola; normalmente el resto del cuerpo carece de ellas, lo que le da un aspecto bastante extraño. No obstante, en epoca de reproducción desarrollan un plumaje extremadamente vistoso que usan en cortejos semejantes a los de ciertas aves modernas.
Los Avisaurus son capaces de cuidarse por si mismos en cuanto nacen; las crias, muy agresivas, se alimentan principalmente de insectos y otros animales pequeños, pero cuando llegan a la edad adulta atacan a cualquier animal de su tamaño para abajo, incluyendo crias de dinosaurios gigantes.
Al contrario que muchas aves, Avisaurus puede ver bien en la oscuridad y a menudo caza durante la noche o al atardecer, si bien gran parte de su actividad se desarrolla durante el dia.
TRIVIA: Por su aspecto medio desplumado, los cientificos de InGen pensaron que el Avisaurus era incapaz de volar, y que solo podia planear torpemente. Por ello decidieron dejarlos en semilibertad, pero fue un error, pues a pesar de su aparente falta de plumas los Avisaurus podian volar perfectamente y pronto varios de ellos escaparon a la jungla. Se cree que hay una buena poblacion de Avisaurus tanto en isla Nublar como en isla Sorna.

Avisaurus is a flying dinosaur, prehistoric equivalent of birds of prey. It doesn´t have a beak, but rather sharp teeth to shear meat, and claws very similar to those of its raptor relatives.
During most of the year, Avisaurus have feathers mostly on wings and tail; usually, the rest of the body lacks feathers which gives the animal a very weird look. Nonetheless, during mating season they develop an extremely bright plumahe they use in courtships, like those of modern birds.
Avisaurus is able to take care of itself from the moment it hatches from the egg; the young, very aggressive, feed on insects and other small animals, but the adults can attack any animal of their size and below, including the young of giant dinosaurs.
Unlike many other birds, Avisaurus can see well in the dark and often hunts at night or dawn, although most of its activity takes place during day.
TRIVIA: Because of its half featherless appearance, InGen scientists thought Avisaurus was unable to fly and that they could only glide clumsily. Thus, they decided to leave them roam semi-free. This was a mistake, for despite their apparent lack of feathers, Avisaurus were able to fly perfectly and several escaped to the jungle. It is believed that there is a considerable population of Avisaurus both in Nublar and Sorna.
