Manticore vs Sabertooth by HodariNundu Manticore vs Sabertooth by HodariNundu
As requested by :icontigerbreath13: who correctly guessed the identity of the mystery dino Eretiscus (I hope he likes it)
In keeping with his more primate-like design: [link] I decided to give it big mandrill-like canines instead of the shark-like rows of teeth of the mythical manticore. It's kinda interesting having both animals in the same pic because the Manticore was probably inspired by tiger sightings, whereas the sabertooth is an actual tiger relative and often called a "tiger" itself :>

Who do you think will win this duel? :D

Neither, unless they're both desperate to fight in the first place. Animals usually don't fight extensively because even the winner may get too injured to survive. One swipe of paw, one swish of tail, a few more snarls, and then they'll both back down.

Cool interpretation of one of my favorite mythological monsters!
Some years ago i tried to write a fantasy tale with a manticore as the main monster but sadly i didn't elaborated it more...

This fight looks impressive, but I can only see it lasting for about 20 seconds.

Possibly the manticore, since the venom in its tail stinger(s) are instant death.

Since it had a mane, "barbed" tail and no stripes, I think the manticore was more likely a lion.

Dunno... the Greek were rather familiar with lions, I doubt they would've mistaken them for anything else.
The often mentioned beard (rather than mane) could very well be the tiger's ruff, and the tail was originally said to be like a scorpion's, which could possibly stem from the tiger's striped ("segmented") tail and black tip (the stinger). Not arguing for the tiger identity, just saying it seems plausible to me.

Awesome! You should do more mythical creatures fighting prehistoric animals. Like raptors vs orks/goblins.

Interesting to see a duel between a mythical creature and a prehistoric creature.

As for who I think will win the duel, I'd say the manticore. Especially if its tail has the spike throwing ability mythology says it has.
