Lost Files- Acrocanthosaurus by HodariNundu Lost Files- Acrocanthosaurus by HodariNundu
JURASSIC PARK Los Archivos Perdidos
Acrocanthosaurus
Epoca: Cretaceo medio, hace 100 millones de años
Distribucion: Norteamerica
Longitud: 12-13 metros
Peso: Hasta 4 toneladas
Dieta: Carnivoro

JURASSIC PARK The Lost Files
Acrocanthosaurus
Age: Middle Cretaceous, 100 million years ago
Range: North America
Length: 12-13 meters
Weight: Up to 4 tons
Diet: Carnivore
Acrocanthosaurus (not to be confused with Metriacanthosaurus) is a huge theropod recognized by its strong sexual dimorphism. Both sexes (pictured, a female) have a sail on their back, lined by a row of keratin spikes. However, the male's sail gets huge, so much that the animal looks twice bigger. Males also have a dewlap that hangs from the neck. It is a slow moving predator, specialized on non agile prey and it also eats lots of carrion. It uses its intimidating size to scare other predators, even raptors, away from their prey. They live in groups lead by a male that is always the largest and most spectacular. This male protects several females and young. Adolescent males are kicked out of the group but often return later to challenge the alpha male. It must be mentioned that only males that have control over a pack reach their complete development and, it seems, sexual maturity.
TRIVIA: Acrocanthosaurus are rather slow and non aggressive compared to other similar predators like Allosaurus or Carcharodontosaurus. Even so, they can be extremely dangerous, especially the males. While they pay little attention to humans due to their small size, they can attack if they consider their territory is being invaded. Ironically, they are not that intolerant of similar predators, and natural hybridations with the forementioned animals have been reported.
It seems that Spinosaurus is the worst enemy of Acrocanthosaurus.
VERY DANGEROUS
