Can I haz Eye Scream?

Un nimravido (basado en Hoplophoneus y Eusmilus, pero supongo que podría ser cualquiera de los parientes cercanos) ataca por sorpresa a un Hyaenodon mucho mas grande que el.
Inspirado en un artículo que leí hace poco sobre fosiles de nimrávidos hallados con marcas inequívocas de haber peleado con otros de su especie (y de otras emparentadas); al parecer atacaban por la espalda,  clavando los colmillos de sable en el cráneo y, con escalofriante frecuencia, en los ojos, con la clara intención de matar o al menos cegar a su enemigo.
Y mientras dibujaba esto se me ocurrió... ¿y si también solian apuntar a los ojos de sus presas? Después de todo, los gatos domesticos a veces apuntan directamente a los ojos de los perros cuando son atacados, y los jaguares suelen introducir sus colmillos a través de los oídos para penetrar el cerebro y matar de forma instantánea. Quiza los dientes de sable (tanto nimravidos como macairodontinos) aprovechaban los ojos como punto débil para cazar a animales mas grandes y potencialmente peligrosos mientras pastaban con la cabeza baja? ¿Quiza un ataque de dientes de sable habría sido mucho mas horrible de lo que imaginamos?

A nimravid (based on Hoplophoneus and Eusmilus, but I guess it could be any of its close relatives) attacks a much larger Hyaenodon by surprise. Inspired by an article I read recently about nimravid fossils found with unmistakable signs of fighting others of their own kind (and closely related species); it seems they attacked from the back, sinking their saber teeth on the skull and, with frightening frequency, on the eyes, with the obvious intention of killing or at least blinding their foe.
And as I doodled this, it occured to me, what if they also targeted the eyes of their prey? After all, cats target the eyes of dogs when they scratch, and jaguars bite through the ears with the intention of fatally piercing the brain. Maybe the sabertooths (both nimravids and machairodontines) would take advantage of the eyes as a weak spot to bring down much bigger, potentially dangerous grazing animals? Maybe a sabertooth attack would have been much more horrible than we imagine?
