Amazing Yutyrannus by HodariNundu Amazing Yutyrannus by HodariNundu
Mwahaha :D

A Yutyrannus! Meet the first giant feathered tyrannosauroid :D We all knew it would be found eventually, I just never thought it would be found so soon. It was up to 9 meters long (being the largest confirmed feathered animal) and lived in a temperate to cold climate so its feathercoat was most likely a winter coat. Three skeletons were found, and although the coat isn´t intact in any of them, everything seems to indicate they were covered on feathers from head to toe.
First Yutyrannus in DA! Mwahaha :D

So you were the first to jump the second biggest dinosaur bandwagon on dA. Impressive timing.

Well in that case, consider yourself lucky for getting your drawing out there first before the massive swarm of Yutyrannus pictures. I actually consider that dinosaur the second biggest dinosaur bandwagon on dA.

Is it me or in this (amazing) drawing the Yutyrannus has fat all around it's body? If it did that's a great idea because most herbivores migrate and you need to eat, so fat would be useful.

Actually, even normal T-rex had a layer (of pretty hefty) fat in his temperate to hot environment. I'd never thought of dinosaurs as having fat actually, not that I deny it, but never thought of it.

This is absolutely incredible, I always suspected feathers on full grown tyrannosaurs, but just for display as manes or along the back, this is just an incredible find! The drawing itself is also great, love the (therizinosaurs?) in the backround and the snowfall, great touch. Keep up the great work!

You're very welcome, and are they based off any species in particular?

What shocked me the most about this discovery is the similarity between it and a drawing I did several years back of some northern albertosaurs in winter plumage.

Makes you wonder just how far feathers have gone in dino history, what with those that hypsilophodontid discovered some years ago with feathers/feather-like structures and Psitacosaurus sporting quils.

Interesting to hear confirmation of a large feathered tyrannosauroid. Makes me wonder if this could indicate feathers on tyrannosauroids in general.
