A very special dinosaur by HodariNundu A very special dinosaur by HodariNundu

Don´t get too excited; this is a dinosaur I dreamed last night.
Actually, in my dream I was watching the news on TV (which I never do in real life), and they were announcing the discovery of a dinosaur from Africa, which, although incomplete, appeared to be a large herbivorous theropod with its teeth fused into guillotine-like plates to cut vegetation.
So this drawing is based on the fragmentary remains and the skeleton reconstruction I saw in my dream XD
Unfortunately I don´t remember what its name was. It started with "E", that's for sure.
Who knows? It may be found for real one day. :>

I don't remember if I've pointed this out before, but this reminds me of the creationist notion that all animals including carnosaurs and other large theropods were herbivores before "the Fall".

Unfortunately that would be a misnomer since it does have teeth (all fused together) and is not a predator...

I thought you had commented this before :B

I wish my dreams about dinosaurs were as peaceful as that. Usually it involves being chased by niftily man-sized theropods thay fit indoors.

Google "Smok" with Triassic as another keyword, this is essentially what you described, except in Poland.

I had a dream that they discovered and described primitive mammals with tortoise-like beaks. Not soft-sensitive toothless snouts like the platypus, actual BEAKS.

Ephedra... it kinda sounds like what they called it in my dream. But why would you name it that?
Reply
:icontassietyger:
tassietyger Featured By Owner Nov 17, 2012  Student General Artist
Because Ephedra is a North African plant and it's quite common and it would sound like a genus for a herbivorous dinosaur (I don't know what the genus means whatsoever!).

to what group of therapod dinosaurs do you classify this monster and wich known dinosaur would be its closest relative?

I think its so strange it would probably be classified as a family of its own... but if I had to suggest a close relative, I would say maybe Limusaurus or Elaphrosaurus...

Okay, now that is just freaking cool! B-)

Africa's been turning up plenty of bizarre theropods and iguanodonts (which I initially thought this creature was: a massive iguanodont that evolved its theropod-like proportions for bulk-loading plant matter), so who knows? Something very much like this may one day be found in the fossil record.
